Summer’s over, work now begins…
We always find that the end of summer is a time to reflect and more importantly look forward to what lies ahead!
The beginning of autumn brings many exciting events: Superhomes visits, World Green Building Week, Green Sky Thinking and London Open House which if you are anything like us will get the eco juices flowing.
This time of year also brings the season which we will commence building our own eco house! We will certainly publish more details as we move forward from here but we broadly plan to commence build at the end of October/early November.
It has all come about so quickly and currently we are searching busily for finance for our build. There is certainly money available for development out there but it comes down to how much you really want to pay? Without looking too hard you can easily find yourself paying 12-18% p.a.!
The commencement of our build is the next major milestone for us in our journey toward a more sustainable way of living.
Due to some of the constraints with the size of the site and the cost (as we want to prove this is affordable) we will not be able to employ all of the features that we had hoped however the house should still be super-efficient and employ many great examples of sustainable materials which we believe will make us at least 80% more efficient (with equivalent reduction in CO2 emissions) than your standard house.
Whatever stage you are at on your own green journey now is a good time to take stock, evaluate and ensure you are taking steps to improve your own lifestyle.
Have you made any decisions over summer or thought of more sustainable activities you want to spend more time on?
(We are always keen to hear stories from others… as we are all in this together.)
