1 down, 2 to go
Here we are, another 6 weeks along (how time flies when it involves planning permission) and we have just submitted planning for our 2 bed house.
So hopefully the 1 bed becomes a 2.
We have changed the footprint of the house ever so slightly (as we almost had enough space for an extra bedroom due to the initial plans submitted) and increased the percentage of renewable energy the property generates as well as some improvements in the fabric efficiency.
Hopefully the neighbours are as understanding with this slight change as they have been to date.
As it turns out the incremental cost of this improvement is marginal which was our concern.
The house will now have a better resale value in future and if granted the 2 bed planning would then mean that it may be just big enough for us to live in, at least until our family grows to needing more than 2 extra bedrooms.
In true ‘Grand Designs’ style by the time planning comes through and we build I am sure there may very well be a baby on the way, just to ensure we keep to any planned deadline.
In the meantime we have purchased another site, already with planning, so we can ‘practice’ a build prior to our own eco house.
It is not so ‘eco’, even though we will make a couple of enhancements to improve this but it was an opportunity that we couldn’t turn down, that I have no doubt will provide excellent experience before we start the more challenging eco build.
We will update on progress with that project as we go forward.
