London Eco House is a resource for information relating to eco housing in both London and further afield.

We hope that through building our own eco house we can encourage others who may have a dream of living in an eco friendly, green or sustainable home.

We are aware that housing accounts for approximately 30% of carbon emissions in the UK and that Government has plans to make all new build properties carbon neutral by 2016.

But where do you and I start?

The answer I guess is somewhere. If we all take some action, however small that action is, in our own lives then the impact could multiply infinitely by influencing others to take similar or even greater actions themselves. In doing so these may be some of the first small footsteps required on the road to change and reversing the negative direction our planet is heading.

For us at London Eco House, the next step we chose to take is significantly changing our own housing situation to a more eco friendly one. We will build our own ‘eco house’ and in doing so share the journey so that it may offer some useful information for others.

(When we say ‘Eco House’ our goal is for the house to be zero carbon if possible or as close to depending on the site, location etc.)

This approach is borne from a passion for both property and the environment. The decision that bought us here today was one that had been bubbling away for some time and therefore an easy one to make.

We have been involved in property in some guise over recent years and all wish to lead our lives in a positive and more eco considerate fashion.

London has ever increasing demands placed upon it by its burgeoning population so if we could prove that our chosen lifestyle and change could be achieved in the nation’s capital then that would also be a good coup.

In addition to this we want to prove this can be achieved within a sensible budget. It is all very well achieving what we have talked about, I hear you say, if you have large stash of money to do it with. We don’t think that should be the case and want to be able to prove that this dream is achievable. We understand that to go and spend a lot of extra money on renewable technologies, that means you have spent in total more than a house would ever be worth, will surely make the most eco conscious stop and think twice before proceeding!

Our plan is to build a new build property, and then to explore the approach to eco refurbishment to enable us then to assist and help others who may have a similar goal to achieve their own eco housing dreams.
